Canada had been an allegiance to Great Britain during and after
the War of Independence of the United States. The major changes of the
years 1830 and the start of 1840 brought to a Popular Government and a
union of Upper and Lower Canada in the year 1841, but several citizens
still wanted confederation of the provinces into a unified and
centralized government. It took more than two decades or twenty years
for it to be realized. This history led the chronicles of the birth of
the Dominion of Canada.
